The research center ITENE closed the 2025 financial year with revenues of €15.64 million, representing a 9.24% increase compared to the previous year and maintaining its growth trajectory for the fifth consecutive year. Specifically, revenues from economic activities rose by 7.76% to €5.82 million, while revenues from non-economic activities increased by 11.17% year-on-year, reaching €9.82 million. It is worth noting that during the past year ITENE received €6.27 million from the Valencian Institute for Business Competitiveness and Innovation (IVACE+i) — Generalitat Valenciana — of which €4.46 million corresponded to its competitive core funding.
In a context shaped by accelerating regulatory, environmental, and technological challenges, the research center strengthened its ability to transform scientific knowledge into solutions that generate real impact for industry. “2025 has been a year of intense activity for ITENE, marked by companies’ trust in the technological capabilities of our research center and in its ability to support them in innovation, sustainability, digitalization, and product and process safety initiatives,” said ITENE’s Managing Director, Javier Zabaleta. Evidence of this is that throughout the year, 1,033 companies relied on ITENE for research projects, technological services, specialized consultancy, and technical assistance.
R&D continues to be the core pillar of ITENE’s activity. In 2025, the research center participated in 328 R&D projects, mobilizing €13.07 million and accounting for 81% of its total activity. These projects enabled progress in strategic areas such as the development of sustainable materials, environmental monitoring, packaging design and functionality, as well as digital applications for advanced logistics. In addition, during 2025 ITENE carried out 1,038 tests for companies worldwide, reinforcing its role as a benchmark research center for industry.
Knowledge dissemination, training, and technology transfer activities also played a prominent role throughout 2025. During the year, the research center organized or participated in 99 events, seminars, technical workshops, and outreach activities, bringing together more than 3,008 attendees from 1,284 companies. These initiatives consolidate the center’s position as a meeting point for professionals and companies interested in learning about the latest technological, regulatory, and innovation trends.
The growth in activity was accompanied by the strengthening of the research center’s workforce. In 2025, ITENE expanded its team to 215 highly qualified professionals working in multidisciplinary areas to deliver technology solutions based on cutting-edge scientific knowledge. The research center also maintains a strong commitment to equal opportunities: 51.6% of its workforce is made up of women, reflecting an active policy of diversity and inclusion within the scientific and technological field.
ITENE INNOLAB, a New Boost for Collaborative Innovation
2025 was also the year in which ITENE INNOLAB became fully consolidated and operational. This open innovation environment, inaugurated in April during the II ITENE TECHSHOW, has established itself as a hub connecting companies, researchers, and stakeholders within the innovation ecosystem.
Thanks to the support of IVACE+i, ITENE INNOLAB has promoted new collaborative dynamics aimed at solving real industrial challenges and validating applications in market-oriented environments. Throughout the year, 13 working sessions and the first Packaging Circular Challenge Hackathon were organized, bringing together 170 professionals and representatives from 120 companies.
These initiatives made it possible to identify more than 50 potential lines of collaboration, consolidating a specialized community focused on innovation and sustainability that fosters knowledge exchange and the joint development of technological solutions.
Commitment to the Future of Industry
The results achieved in 2025 reflect the ability of the research center ITENE to anticipate the challenges facing industry and support companies in their transition toward more sustainable, digital, and competitive business models.
The research center therefore reaffirms its commitment to continuing to promote applied research, knowledge transfer, and collaboration with industry, contributing to the development of technological solutions that generate value for both industry and society.
