ITENE is a research centre, which was set up as a private Spanish non-profit association, founded on 30 May 1994.

Our milestones
R&D&I accounts for more than 85% of our activity. Between 2020 and 2023, we worked with about 1,900 customers.

Work-Life Balance Plan: We have a Work-Life Balance Plan that includes more than 25 measures aimed at facilitating the balance between the personal, family, and professional lives of our team members. These include the possibility of remote work, flexible start and finish times, half-day Fridays, and compressed working hours distributed throughout the year.

Development Policy: We have our own professional classification system, which allows each position to be objectively assigned to its corresponding level and category, as well as enabling its monitoring and progression. This system is complemented by specific career plans for each role, aimed at supporting employees’ professional development. In addition, we foster the growth of our team through a culture of continuous feedback between managers and employees, promoting ongoing improvement and individual development within the organization.

Training Policy: We promote continuous training at all levels of the organization, with the aim of ensuring that our team members acquire the knowledge required to perform their roles effectively and continue their professional development. We believe that we can only deliver value to our clients and to society through knowledge, which is why we encourage participation in training activities as well as attendance at national and international trade fairs and conferences.

Recruitment Policy: We manage and attract specialized and scientific talent, and currently have a team of more than 215 people, around 120 of whom are researchers and R&D technicians. Our goal is to continue incorporating highly qualified professionals, which is why we develop rigorous recruitment processes aligned with the organization’s needs, enabling us to identify and attract the best talent.

ITENE’s mission contributes, through its R&D activities, consultancy, and testing services, to making society more efficient in the use of natural resources. It also plays a key role in addressing environmental challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity, and the promotion of technology-driven solutions focused on sustainability. To reinforce this commitment, ITENE has established an environmental policy that sets out the principles for risk management and regulatory compliance, with the aim of minimizing the impact of its activities and maximizing its ability to address current environmental challenges.

Information Security Policy for Suppliers and Stakeholders: ITENE has established security policies that reflect its commitment to information protection, ensuring the principles of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. In addition, we operate under an Information Security Management System in accordance with the ISO/IEC 27001 standard and aligned with the Spanish Organic Law on Data Protection (LOPDGDD 3/2018, of December 5).

Compliance Policy: ITENE has a compliance policy that reflects its zero-tolerance commitment toward any conduct involving breaches of criminal regulations or unethical behavior.
ITENE’s headquarters are located in the Technology Park of Paterna (Valencia) and comprise 12,000 m² of proprietary facilities, distributed across two buildings dedicated to laboratories and pilot plants equipped with cutting-edge technology.
In 2023, the ITENE ScaleUp building was inaugurated, with a surface area of 3,210 m². It is located opposite the main headquarters and is focused on laboratories and pre-industrial scale-up facilities.
In 2025, the main building was expanded by 1,132.60 m², and the collaborative space ITENE Innolab was inaugurated.

UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17025 – Laboratory Quality System. ENAC (Spanish National Accreditation Body) accredited testing laboratory (No. 316 / LE678). The accredited activities are those defined in ENAC’s Scope of Accreditation.

ISO 27001 – Information Security Management System – ITENE renewed its AENOR certification in 2025 in accordance with UNE-EN ISO/IEC 27001:2022. This system supports activities related to scientific research, R&D project development, testing services, innovation, and technical assistance to clients, in accordance with the current Statement of Applicability.

ISO 14001 – Environmental Management System – ITENE has also renewed its AENOR certification in accordance with ISO 14001:2015 for the development of R&D projects and the provision of testing services, technical assistance, and technology transfer in the fields of packaging, transport, and logistics.

UNE 19601 – Criminal Compliance Management System – ITENE has also renewed its AENOR certification in accordance with UNE 19601:2017, aimed at managing the financial and non-financial controls necessary to mitigate the criminal risks identified in the development of its R&D, testing, innovation, technical assistance, and technology transfer activities in the fields of packaging, transport, and logistics.

“Fent Empresa. Iguals en Oportunitats” Seal – ITENE holds the official approval of its Equality Plan and has been awarded the “Fent empresa. Igualtat d’oportunitats” seal, which recognizes companies in the Valencian Community that stand out for implementing equality policies and having validated equality plans.

Valencian Socially Responsible Entity – ITENE’s environmental commitment and good corporate governance, supported by these certifications, have enabled the renewal in 2025 of its status as a Valencian Socially Responsible Entity, granted by the Directorate General for Economy of the Generalitat Valenciana in accordance with Decree 200/2022 of 25 November of the Consell.

SAFE LOAD Testing Technologies
- Focused on research and development of new testing methods and solutions to optimise and validate distribution packaging, its equipment is the first European transport simulation machine capable of simulating the physical and mechanical risks to which goods are subjected during the distribution cycle.
